Seeding an Archive

This section describes how to seed an archive by first making a local backup and then transporting the local archive to your host storage. Seeding speeds the initial baseline backup. Subsequent backups are then incremental, requiring substantially less backup time and internet bandwidth.

Perform the Baseline Backup

  • The following steps require the TrueSafe Professional Server Edition, which allows you to perform a local backup in the required archive format.
  • Enter the Registration Code in the Help Registration menu.
  • Create the Backup Profile. On the Choose Backup Destination step, select My Computer, then click Options, choose the Archive tab and choose Encrypted archive format. Click Ok and then Finish to save the Profile.
  • Choose Run Backup to run the backup. Once the backup is complete, proceed to the next section.
Note- It is critical that the Sign In uses the same User Name your customer will use, as encryption is tied to the User Name.

Migrating the Archive to your Host Computer

Archive directories are organized on your Host by UserName, with a subfolder for Computer. The assigned identification codes for the UserName and Computer are used. You can view these ids online under on the Hosted User page. For example, the archive for user acme@domain.com on computer ACME_SERVER may be found in the folder 59325\43254.

  • Copy the data to the hosted archives area on your Host. Make sure you include all files and folders, including hidden files and folders. For example, if your Host archive folder is G:\TS, and using the ACME_SERVER example above, you would copy the data to: G:\TS\59325\43254
  • Verify that the archive is loaded properly- on the client computer, choose View Archive and verify the folder and file structure is consistent with the expected archive. Click the Restore toolbar button to restore some of the files. Click Browse to restore the files to a different, temporary location. View the file to verify proper decryption.
